NimChimpskyExhibit M for how liberals disregard everything Trump says as uninformed, hyperbolic lies until what he says confirms their preexisting biases.

*I'm* not inclined to see Pence wanting to literally hang Gays. That's Moore and probably more next cycle. The remark is clearly a *joke* about how hostile Pence is too gay rights and the outrage is how much callous disregard Trump has for other people.?
It also confirms my great fear of the dynamic at play. I.e. authorization strongman willing to throw queer people to the Christian lions to grab and/or maintain power.?

Facebook UserHe's right about this. The T-Meter or really any site that spits out a number attached to film criticism is gross. It simply isn't useful or proper to know x% of critics say when forced too that they like(or recommend) a certain film.

But it's okay for TV, right?

1) Several film industry folks have recently bitched about rotten tomatoes. This has lead me to read several articles and reconsider my position on this. I was mostly wrong in the previous thread.
2) tv shows are fundamentally far more consumer products than films. Especially now that writers/creators have audience feedback yelled at them from twitter. There's virtually no tv shows that should be considered art. So the grossness of reducing the experience to a number makes sense. Writing up a yelp review for a local McDonalds is less bothersome than writing a yelp review for the family dinner locally owned.
3) I still think your general complaint is nonsense. A couple of episodes for most shows are enough to judge the general flavor of a show.?

NimChimpskyIt's worth pointing out the US voted the exact same way on the exact same kind of resolution under the Obama adminstration, too. I've seen a lot of large-font posts this time around; I don't recall any for that one.

A nonvote is not a no vote moron.?

And Trump is now backing Moore and speaking to the Value Voters Summit of FRC. (Peter Sprigg still with them?)

I'm taking that as a tacit endorsement of criminalization of homosexuality.

BigwigYes, this is not good. Nationals better fucking win tomorrow.

I'm leaning towards that happening too. The defense has been completely respectable and now that the Indians are out the best possible repeat is out of play. There's no strong aesthetic reason to repeat.

It's part of a very annoying and dangerous trend to try to science! everything.

God I hate how much weight "science!" is given in this culture. It's why stuff like the Google memo happens.

DetrimentalAlso would banning guns stop this stuff?

Not soaking the country with powerful weaponry to the point where a man with no knowledge of firearms can kill 60 people, and can do it because firearms are more than readily available with few barriers? Yeah, gun control would do a lot to stop that.

And reasonable restrictions on speech and assembly, one of which that I have in mind could possibly pass Constitutional muster, would prevent a Charlottesville from happening. Such restrictions are of course a nonstarters for liberals.?
Because liberals rather see the others thrown into the jaws of so called freedom than have a society in which every one's basic bodily autonomy is protected.
If you are queer, black Latino etc arm yourself now.?
Chamberlains like you would see us pacified and defenseless against the hordes of the heartland. You uncle Mary.?

When I think about this intent and modern day, I can't help but think that the sort of people who heavily arm themselves are probably more likely to be the paramilitary agents of government oppression than they are the resistance to it.

Yeah, pretty much. But what's really the response to this? "Hey, minorities/leftists, arm yourselves, too, in case America really goes off the rails?"

The Socialist Rifle Association is on it.?
Real group.
I'm completely against any gun control given the current climate.
Winter is coming.?

Once Roy Moore is elected to the Senate how should I respond the Alabamians?

I have but one life and I have no idea what happens after death so I must avoid death at all costs.

From where I sit I have to assume complete and utter hostile intent on the part of Alabamians because if I get this wrong I will be dead. As such if I learn of an Alabamian is by me I'm fleeing or if one is aggressive in anyway I'm swinging away.

This is a minor point but a 1000 years of Trump's would have the probability of nuclear war be one, so at least there's that I guess.

The CBS veep is a martyr for truth.

Oh come on, this behaviour is purely symmetrical about the political divide.

It isn't though. Not at all. The reaction you see in America if the shooter is Muslim or liberal is vastly different than the reaction if he is conservative, Christian, white, male, etc. There is a distinct asymmetry in each side's willingness and/or capacity to exploit the tragedy to demonize the class of people they disfavor.

Yes, there are liberals who do the same thing conservatives do to these events, but in reverse, but they aren't even in the ballpark of influence as what happens on the other side.

Do you have any doubt that the reaction in America would've been vastly more hysterical if the shooter was a Muslim? Because I'm pretty sure we'd be debating the fundamental civil rights of Muslims right now if he was. If the shooter was a liberal ideologue, I guarantee you right-wing media would be on fire right now, and that would influence the general news cycle. If the reverse were the case, the left-wing outrage machine would be there, but relatively muted and smaller in influence. We know this, because those things have happened before.

I must live in a very different media bubble because all I'm seeing everywhere every time this happens is "white male toxicity" commentary in the same left-leaning spheres where literally everyone denies that ISIS is even slightly Islamic or religiously motivated.

This is complete and utter bullshit. I'm almost certainly in a substantially similar news feed. I've never seen everyone deny that there's some religious motivations to ISIS. The argument is always that it's not more of reflection on Islam than the nutjob who shot up planned parenthood reflects on Christianity you reactionary douchebag.

I also people correctly pointing out that Christians are more dangerous in America.

NimChimpskyLol, at Kelly trying to have a conversation.

My favourite thing about his world view is that in its celebration of martial triumphalism he'd literally be the very first person against the wall if anything actually broke out.

I was surprised to see a recent Noam Chomsky quote criticizing Antifa on this basis. If you forsake argument in favor of violence and intimidation, then the most violent are the ones who are likely to win, and that isn't going to be the anti-Trumpers.

I'm pretty sure lots of people made that argument a long time before Chomsky. Antifa are taking the role of the Weimar communists here.

This would sting if the Communists didn't eventually defeat the Nazis the first go around.

Esoteric AllusionCBS fired a senior legal counsel for making appalling Kelly-esque facebook comments about the shooting:

There is a real problem in journalism now where the people doing it are blithely unaware of how insane their views sound to average people. If the phrase "white people" is hauled out as a punchline by this class of imbecile any more you will have Trumps for the next 1,000 years.

What do you mean now? The marching morons were a problem in the 50's.

You don't understand my world view if you think it contains any martial triumphalism. The state of nature is to be avoided at all costs. And I'm not the one who placed us in it.?

NimChimpskyLol, at Kelly trying to have a conversation.

I'm not trying to have a conversation with you. Why would I bother? You have revealed yourself to an amoral power seeker whose deepest "convictions" are to be dropped whenever they conflict your material interests. You are perfectly fine as you clearly admitted with the electoral college greatly hampering minorities' (negative) liberty because the EC makes electing Democrats harder. You have clearly indicated that your support of institutional arrangements is inherently suspect of being disingenuous. You cannot be trusted to act in good faith.
In short, your libertarianism is ideology in Marx's sense and I'm offering potboiler retorts to your disingenuous potboiler Just Asking Questions dog and pony show.

NimChimpskyHe was a multimillionaire real estate investor, apparently. This now fits literally a shooter profile of 1.

He fits the most common profile for mass shooters in this country--white and male.
Economic class is nothing in light of the ancient talisman of whiteness.?

I use to love this show but the misogynistic completely insane fan base has ruined any value it once had. And given the number of people who want to be Rick the show must be a fundamental failure.

Also knock me over with a feather that TheVic found the psychologist preachy in Pickle Rick.

NimChimpskyA horrifying thing to wake up to. As usual, and understandably, a lot of people saying ?We have to do something.? What? His gun, under federal law, was all but impossible to get legally. I?m not being ideological what, honestly, is the solution that, on the books, would have stopped this?

It's a complete mystery! I mean every other Western industrial society...oh wait.?

In light of it being country music we can only hope that most of the alleged victims are Republican voters. Much why I opposed Harvey relief in any form I say let them die due to the "liberty" they favor.

Let them drown in their "liberty."

Esoteric AllusionThe point is that the opportunities for Baldwin to engage with Moore in any meaningful way are going to be minimal if shes out of office in a year. They're not necessarily going to be seated on the same committee.

I'm positioning that she shouldn't engage with him at all. Once he is elected the Democrats but especially Baldwin should break qurom and refuse to attend any Senate function, meaningful or not.
It is simply impossible to have any sort of reasonable interaction with a person who would see 4% of the population dead?
As a queer person Baldwin must assume complete and utter hostile intent from Moore. It's unsafe for any queer person to be in the same room as he is?
