If it's unclear to anyone, here's how to do it:

Click on your name in any post on the forums. You'll be taken to your forum profile page, which shows a link to your user profile and a list of all the posts you've made.

Beneath your photo and link to your user profile, you'll see a link that reads "Manage Avatar."

You can figure out the rest from there.

Does this apply just to just avatars or should we make sure all images we post in threads are also routed through something like photobucket? Also, what's the maximum size of avatars now? I've seen some really long ones on the new boards.

120px by 180px*, and it's just common courtesy to use image-hosting sites when posting pictures, but you can always take your Goatse chances with hotlinking.

* I think. If there's no limit, you can probably get away with 120px x 200px until we get signatures. I wouldn't go any wider than 120px either way.

Thanks, I'll keep that in mind. Sure they can't be larger than 180px anymore? I've seen at least two that were a lot longer. I copied one into Photoshop out of curiosity and it was like 200 x 500 pixels or something odd like that.

Whatever the limit is, just don't be a dick and stretch the page for others. The guy you saw was probably being a dick. We only have a width of 850 pixels for posting.

It's not very practical for avatar images anyway, I'm just rather curious what the limits are.

I can't get this to work either, it just goes back to the login screen. It worked when I first got on today, but it's not working again.

Not one to complain but my AV disappeared and now I can't put it back. I've tried the normal avenues, even with a different AV altogether. Both are sized correctly.

I'm having the same problem.

PS: Nevermind my avatar magically reappeared. Again. It keeps disappearing and then reappearing.
