The Definitive Forums Bug Thread

Hey everyone,

After several setbacks, we finally got the forums back online. I know there are a few issues we still need to tackle, and the engineering team will be ironing out those wrinkles in the coming days. Mostly though, the forums should be functional, save for a few cosmetic issues.

Please use this thread to log bugs, and to log bugs only; you can leave commentary in any number of the bug threads others have created. This will help us more easily sort through what you have found and subsequently correct those problems.

Here's what we know of so far and will begin working on:

1) "Location" text isn't wrapping, and is therefore stretching out the profile portion of posts on the left hand side, causing indentation of the body text. - FIXED

2) Some of you have AIM icons under your avatars; this is a holdover from the old account settings in vBulletin, which asked for IM names if you wished to share that info. We will be removing the AIM icons.

3) Some of you are sporting avatars that don't match up with your main user profile image; this should not be the case, and we'll be looking into the error. - FIXED

4) Some of you are reporting that you're unable to edit your sigs. We're logging that and looking into it. - FIXED

5) We will be adding the list of "users online" at the bottom of each forum.

6) We will be adding navigation at the bottom of threads. EDIT: To clarify, there is breadcrumb navigation located at the top of the page, but we'll also be implementing it at the bottom. - FIXED

7) The "Quick Reply" button within individual posts is only sending users to a regular reply page quoting the post in question, which is no different from simply hitting the "Quote" button.

8) All the problems in IE 6 have been noted and are being examined. (These issues are not experienced in IE7, IE8, or Firefox users; updating your browsers will ensure optimal performance on RT.) - FIXED (the fixes were rolled out on the evening of Tuesday, July 7th; if you are still experiencing problems, let me know)

9) Private Messaging is tricky, as PMs previously ran through vBulletin, but our new Community area is an entirely separate and different interface, so migrating the data is not easy. With that said, we're working on a way to allow access to the old PMs, which we still have stored, so that you can at least retrieve any important information from them.

10) Larger threads with over 100 posts are returning 500 Service Errors when the posts-per-page preference is set to 100. The temporary solution for this is to drop the posts-per-page to 50, and all of those threads should be viewable.

I'll continue to add to this list, but in the meantime, please use this thread to log bugs. Thanks.

I have the problem you describe in #3, I never changed my avatar since the forums went down however.

I had my settings to view 100 posts per page. I could not access any multi-page thread, so I switched to the "forum default" posts per page, and now it works. It sounds like many people who were set at 100 per page (or other) are having similar problems.

All newly uploaded main profile images will be limited to 120px in width. The ones that don't currently match are from before the upgrade, and will change when an image is uploaded.

Also, I've been getting thread-specific server errors:

"Internal Server Error

The server encountered an internal error or misconfiguration and was unable to complete your request.

Please contact the server administrator, [no address given] and inform them of the time the error occurred, and anything you might have done that may have caused the error.

More information about this error may be available in the server error log."

-I can't post at all on Internet Explorer on my PC. Whether it be Quick Reply, Reply, or Quote, it just sends me to the Preview page after I hit Submit.

-Also, I can't get into any threads that were started before the forums went down. It gives me the "This Page Cannot Be Displayed" error.

So were ANY threads deleted anywhere? Or were *all* threads from every single movie/celeb forum ported over to GD?

I'm trying to search on content from some of the old splinter forums within GD, and while I'm finding some threads from a couple of forums, I'm (as of yet) unable to find threads from other forums.

EDIT: That isn't necessarily a bug - but a clarification question. Unsure if it's a bug as of now.

I did a search for a thread I started in OT that has "miss magoo" in the thread title. When I ran a search for it a few minutes ago using just that information (thread title, "miss magoo") it first came back with no results and next came back with a "Gateway timeout in read" error message.

So... is the 'Members Online' feature now permanently gone? That's kind of a bitch for when you're having a conversation with someone.

Also: No usernames are showing up at the bottom of each page. Just the mods. That's a bug, right? Not a design change?

Not exactly a bug, but - the "Country" selection still lists "Serbia and Montenegro". I'm from Montenegro, and we've been independent for over three years now. I can't change other personal information if I don't set the country, and I don't want to use the current selection.

Dude, they spent three weeks on this thing. Do you really think they'd go to the trouble of relaunching with bugs?

After making this statement, I find your join date hard to believe.

The forum clock is running a hour behind yet I'm in the correct time zone. I also see that there is no place to adjust for Day Light Savings Time.

Thanks for the input everyone. I'm compiling these offline as we go, and I'll be sending a list to our engineers tonight.
