Major stuff you didn't notice in movies for an embarrassingly long time

So it was recently pointed out to me that in LOTR, the One Ring is shown shifting in size, which allowed it to fit on anyone's finger.

I had never noticed it change size, but here it is, clear as fucking day:

Any big part of a movie that just went completely over your head for a crazy long time?

Initially I thought the ring had a scaling problem (e.g.,Klingon Bird of Prey), because it fit on everyone's finger.

It wasn't until I saw Raiders of the Lost Ark on the big screen a couple of years ago (I first saw it in the theater back in '81) that I realized some of the "snakes" on the ground in the Ark's room were just pieces of hose.

Also I don't remember when I first noticed, but it took probably several viewings to notice the fly that crawls into Belloq's mouth when Indy confronts the Nazis with the rocket launcher as they're carrying the Ark through the canyon.

Gotta go to work, but I'll try to think of some others.

I feel like that's only something I knew because it's a famous bit of trivia, but I probably never would have noticed it on my own.

I finally saw the storm trooper bonk his head in Star Wars episode 4.

I knew all about this bit of trivia, and I always looked for it early on in the movie, but when I didn't see it in the first 30 minutes or so I just assumed it was a quick little moment that I kept missing, and gave up looking for it.

Then I saw it. BONK. Wow, and oops. Can't miss that!

Good ol Star Wars fans. They have a whole page with backstory and all the details on this one trooper who is in the movie for 6 seconds-

From Stripes:

I must have seen the movie a dozen times but never noticed the text in the top right: Teaching your child unarmed combat: Don't pull punches!

This one is a multistage realization: It took me a second viewing of The King of Comedy to notice the guy in the background mocking Rupert in this scene. It took me a third viewing to notice it's Morrie of Morrie's Wigs from Goodfellas. Apparently there was a cut subplot where he flirts with and picks up Diahnne Abbott's character while Rupert remains oblivious.

Maybe if you didn't post gigantic images people would know what you're referring to, dipshit.

I've seen that movie a million times and know the moment they hand him the Coke but never put two and two together. That's brilliant.

Here's a Cinemassacre video about a glaring piece of cardboard in Dracula.

I get tripped up on dialogue sometimes, especially when used with a non-midwestern dialect -

NICODEMUS: Courage of the heart is very rare...
ME: The Age of the Heart is very rare...

- didn't find this out until I joined this jolly lot. And I still hear my quote, like a skip on an LP that isn't on a CD.

I must have missed half the jokes in The Full Monty because of those damn Sheffield accents. I finally re-watched it with captions on a few years ago and caught a lot more of what they were saying.

Egon's "epididymis" joke from Ghostbusters 2. As a kid, I just thought that was another word for epidermis, i.e. skin. How wrong I was.

I watched The Princess Bride probably on a weekly basis for several years when I was a kid. It wasn't until I was in college when I finally rewatched it that I realized, ah shit, this movie's a comedy. I had taken everything at face value for years.

I saw Dr. Strangelove in high school, so it took a few years before I knew the proper significance of Merkin Muffley, and why it's funnier because he happens to be bald.

I only just figured out that Rick and Morty is a play on "brick and mortar."
