EL GuapoGreat start for Better Call Saul this season

Because I'm sick and miserable I haven't had much to do today except whine and think, and I think I have figured out a few different ways Jimmy gets out of this predicament.

1) During the disbarment hearing Jimmy exposes Chuck as a whackjob by waving a cell phone in his face or something. Either Chuck has a meltdown and is disbarred himself and/or institutionalized or, in light of the embarrassment to HHM by Chuck's mental problems being (?) exposed, Howard decides to drop his testimony and let Jimmy off the hook to get him to stop. Jimmy wouldn't do this to family but I doubt he considers Chuck family any more.

2) During the course of the hearing, people, including Chuck, are forced to testify about how much Jimmy has taken care of Chuck in his time of need and Chuck is shamed into dropping the allegations. I think this one's much less likely because Chuck doesn't seem like the type to have that sort of epiphany when it comes to Jimmy. Also, Chuck is right -- Jimmy should be disbarred.

I don't know what happens at a disbarment hearing and maybe none of that makes sense as something that could happen in that context.

Well, and all both of the witnesses can attest to is that Jimmy was angry at being taped. It doesn't change necessarily about what he said on the tape being necessarily true (back to Kim's point about saying something to make Chuck feel better). This is drawing a fine distinction between confession and frustration over betrayal of trust (as a defense Jimmy can mount), but ... maybe?

Anyway, I love how the show can keep you guessing even as it propels itself toward some inevitable developments.

I'm certainly very interested in seeing how it all goes down. Maybe Jimmy changes his name as part of some agreement. It was good to see Gus again

I think the point of all that was to witness Jimmy destroying/stealing evidence that he believed to be incriminating or at least worthy of disbarment. It doesn't actually matter what was on the tape. I think that was Chuck's plan, anyway.

Or is the plan to charge Jimmy with a criminal violation? I found a reddit thread where they are discussing that but it doesn't make sense to me. Jimmy is a frequent visitor to Chuck's place with a history of helping Chuck with his medical issues so the B&E charge is shaky (even though Jimmy busted down the door). If all they have is that and destruction of property, it seems likely Jimmy would get a slap on the wrist and continue on being a lawyer. This is misdemeanor stuff, right?

Was pleased to hear "Prisencolinensinainciusol" in the Fargo season three premiere. Hawley is great at picking music for his shows.

Crashing - Season 1 (2017) - 55

Pete Holmes should stick to what he's best at: being a guest on the Doug Loves Movies podcast.

In honor of Earth Day, Bill Maher went on a rant against a ridiculous straw-man: It's OK to trash Earth because we can just move to Mars. As evidence for this thinking he presented movies like The Martian and, I shit you not, John Carter.

Maher is superficial, but, superficially, I can almost understand the frustration of someone reading the daily pop science headlines where reports of worsening climate change expectations run in tandem with reports of newly discovered "Earth-like" planets to escape to. For someone as superficial as Maher, I can see how he would be frustrated with this perception of scientific priorities. Of course in an ideal world our astronomical pursuits shouldn't have to compete with our ecological imperatives.

Girls - Season 4 (2015) - 75

Is my impression that most people think this show deteriorated in quality correct? I think it's been pretty damn solid throughout.?

I think the general(ly correct) impression is that season 4 is the show's nadir, but it was never bad, and seasons 5 and 6 are great.

Yeah, good luck with Mars. We're a long way from just being able to send people safely to Mars for a field trip.

Let alone the amount of solar radiation that reaches the surface.

The internet tells me that the new theme song for The Leftovers is the theme song for Perfect Strangers. I was wondering what the hell was happening.

Ha, and the episode was written by "The Lonely Donkey Kong and Specialist Contagious", which apparently Lindelof and Perrotta got from a Wu Tang Clan name generator. This god damn show.

Also, Mark Linn Baker actually does have two degrees from Yale. Why is this show trying to break my brain?

I am really going to miss this show when it's gone.

So what are we thinking this is all going to come down to...aliens? Parallel universes? Buggy computer simulation? Um, god, I guess? Or will they leave it all unexplained? Will we ever see Bronson Pinchot again? (I guess that one applies to the real world, too.)

My understanding is that they're never going to fully explain what caused the Sudden Departure and I'd guess they're not even going to give any more details about it than what they've already given. They are, however, gonna explain what's up with this weird shit in Australia. I love this show so much. You'd think it couldn't outweird sending its main character to the afterlife where he becomes an assassin and listens to a dead cult leader talk about her stint on jeopardy while they sit at the bottom of a well, but wow, you'd be wrong. This is my favorite show on TV, by far.
